This loop starts at Pinecrest Marina and goes over the dam and then down toward  Strawberry. About 1/8 mile before the Herring Creek crossing, make a sharp right up the older historical catfish lake trail and then  head up to catfish lake, then up toward Pinecrest peak.  When this trail connects with a logging road, turn right and DO NOT continue up toward Pinecrest peak but continue Westerly on that loggin road.   The road ends but a trail does a steep trail back to catfish and then takes the  new catfish lake trail to Pinecrest Lake and then continues around the lake.  (See Map).

At mile 3.89 it is important you continue westerly on the old logging road and do not continue easterly toward Pinecrest Peak.  Follow this old logging road for about another 1/4 and the road will end but the trail will start.
