8 miles round trip / 1364 foot elevation climb from Pinecrest
OR drive part way up Herring Creek Road and hike 2 mile round trip hike, 600 feet climb

This hike and view is probably one the best and easiest hikes to do in Pinecrest. There are two ways to get to this lake overlook that is located on the north wall of the Pinecrest canyon.
First, if the Herring Creek road is open (often not opened until late June). you can drive most of the way there and a short 1.0 mile hike each way. (see map).
The second way is to hike from Pinecrest, and then take the lake trail to north shore and then take the Pinecrest peak trail past Catfish lake. This route is about 8 miles round trip and 1300 feet of climb.
Just before this heart shaped pond as you hike to Pinecrest Peak, work your way out and up to this point.
